Vortex Backup vs Rewind Backups
Vortex Backup captures 23 Shopify data types, inventory, menus, discounts, gift card balances and independent copies of your files included, and restores 19 of them version by version. Rewind Backups covers the familiar catalog objects and stops at the edges.
The differences, each one checkable against Rewind Backups’s own docs.
Inventory, backed up and restored
Rewind's docs state product inventory “cannot be backed up or restored.” Vortex Backup captures available and on-hand quantities per location with every product version, and restores them, matched by SKU, per location.
Every restore is self-serve
Rewind's dashboard restores core items self-serve, but its docs route metafields, menus, locations, shipping zones, store policies and translations through “email us at help@rewind.com” for a manual restore. Vortex Backup restores these the same way as everything else: pick the version, click restore.
Your files, independently stored
Rewind lists Files-manager content and videos among the items it cannot back up. Vortex Backup backs up all five Shopify file types (images, videos, external videos, 3D models, generic files) and keeps a checksummed copy in its own cloud storage, so restores re-upload even if the original is gone.
The whole commerce surface
Discounts (code and automatic), gift card balances, B2B price lists and catalogs, markets, shipping and delivery profiles, URL redirects, abandoned checkouts and payment disputes, all backed up alongside the catalog. URL redirects and catalogues sit on Rewind's own unsupported list.
Schema-level restore
Metafield definitions, metaobject definitions and metaobject entries are all restorable. Your custom data model comes back with its types and validation rules, not just orphaned values.
True state reconcile
Restoring a product also restores its sales-channel state, publishing where the backup was published and unpublishing where it was not. Shipping profiles rebuild zones, rates and variant assignments in full.
Shopify's best-known backup app: automated backup with a 365-day history and on-demand restore of the familiar catalog objects, plus an Advanced Restore that rolls a whole store back to a point in time.
Full description
Rewind Backups automatically backs up Shopify store data and restores it on demand, with a 365-day backup history. Its documentation lists products, collections, customers, orders, pages, blogs, themes, navigation menus, store policies, locations, shipping, metafields (on plan-dependent tiers) and metaobjects among what it captures, and lists product inventory, Files-manager content and videos, URL redirects, blog comments, image ALT text and B2B catalogues among what it does not. Its dashboard restores core items self-serve; metafields, menus, locations, shipping zones, store policies and translations are restored manually by its support team. An Advanced Restore rolls an entire store back to a point in time.
Vortex Backup vs Rewind Backups, on the facts.

The fine print
- Whole-store restore: Rewind offers an “Advanced Restore” that rolls the entire store back to a point in time; Vortex Backup restores are per item and per version today. If a full-store rollback is the buying criterion, this is Rewind's strongest card.
- Translations: Rewind lists product translations as backed up; Vortex Backup does not currently capture translations.
- Orders: Both products back up orders, and Rewind excludes draft orders. Shopify's API constrains order restoration on both sides: Rewind offers manual order recovery via support, and Vortex Backup treats order backup as an archive.
- Metaobject restore nuances at Rewind: Fields referencing Companies, Files or Product Variants are backed up but cleared on restore, and Private or third-party-app definitions are not backed up at all.
- Gift card codes: A restored gift card keeps its balance and history but is issued a new code, a Shopify API restriction that applies to any backup vendor.
- Product reviews and other app data: Neither product can back up data that lives inside third-party apps.

Competitor facts verified from public sources, August 2026 (Rewind pricing tiers checked 2 August 2026; Rewind's pricing changes periodically, so re-check before quoting a specific figure). Products change; if anything here is out of date, email press@vortexiq.ai and we'll correct it.
Where Vortex Backup helps, and where Rewind Backups still shines.
A restore has to bring inventory back with it. Rewind's documentation states product inventory cannot be backed up or restored; Vortex Backup versions available and on-hand quantities per location with every product.
You do not want to raise a support ticket to recover. Rewind restores metafields, menus, locations, shipping zones, store policies and translations manually via help@rewind.com; Vortex Backup restores them from the dashboard like everything else.
Your storefront depends on the Files library. Files-manager content and videos are on Rewind's unsupported list; Vortex Backup keeps checksummed copies of all five file types in its own storage, so a restore re-uploads even if the original is gone.
Your store runs discounts, gift cards, markets, B2B price lists and catalogs, or URL redirects. These sit outside Rewind's documented coverage, and URL redirects and catalogues are on its unsupported list.
If a one-click, whole-store point-in-time rollback is your buying criterion, Rewind's Advanced Restore does that today and Vortex Backup restores per item and per version. That is the honest trade.
