Shopify Sidekick is Shopify’s built-in, free AI commerce assistant that lives in the Shopify admin and helps merchants start, run and grow their business using everyday language. It can analyse store data, answer questions, draft content (product descriptions, blog posts, emails, images), create or edit store objects, build discount codes and collections, update store design, manage orders and generate custom apps, always presenting changes for the merchant to review and approve. It respects staff access controls so team members only interact with data they are authorised to use.

Store Development applies API and content changes on BigCommerce today with a RollbackPro undo point, opens pull requests for theme code on any platform with a repository, and returns guided steps where no API path exists. Shopify, Adobe Commerce and WooCommerce write paths are confirmed per connector.

Yes. Shopify states Sidekick “takes action in your admin”: it can build discount codes and collections, update theme/store design, edit products and manage orders, always via options the merchant reviews and approves.

Approval + rollback

Production writes require approval by default; staging, rollback and audit depend on the supported workflow.

Approval-gated: Shopify's help centre says Sidekick “presents changes for your review before applying them”, and the Spring 26 Edition describes app Action Extensions that “stage changes for confirmation”. For themes, “you must manually save any changes that Sidekick applies”; the theme editor has undo within a session and code files keep Older versions. No store-wide point-in-time rollback or staging environment is documented.

Detection model

Scheduled scans, a daily money check and shopper journey runs surface findings without being asked; each is verified first.

On-demand and conversational: merchants invoke Sidekick from any admin page via text or voice, and since the Winter 26 Edition (December 2025) it can run longer tasks in the background and surface proactive recommendations through Sidekick Pulse. Shopify's documentation does not describe a verification step on those recommendations or monitoring of systems outside Shopify.
