Choosing for BigCommerce · September 2026

The best ecommerce AI automation platform for BigCommerce: it depends on the job.

BigCommerce merchants have fewer options than Shopify merchants and one gap Shopify does not have: there is no native assistant that stages admin changes for confirmation, and no native backup or rollback. That shapes the shortlist. This page names what exists, quotes each vendor on approval and undo, and places Vortex IQ against the same criteria.

Start with the platform

What BigCommerce already gives you.

What BigCommerce gives you: BigAI recommendations and predictive Insights, the BigCommerce Companion assistant (described as helping merchants "analyze data and complete tasks"), BigCommerce MCP and Storefront MCP for agent access to the catalogue and checkout, and Feedonomics Agentic Catalog Exports into ChatGPT, Google AI, Copilot and Perplexity, all announced at Commerce Live on 28 to 30 April 2026. Companion's write capabilities and approval wording are not documented on a vendor page we could verify, and BigCommerce does not document native backup or rollback.

How to compare

Seven criteria, applied to every product below including ours.

CriterionWhat to ask
Coverage of jobsStore health monitoring, SEO and GEO content, ads optimisation, storefront journey testing, applying fixes (API, theme code), staging, backup and rollback, catalogue migration. Score each as native, partial, or build it yourself.
Approval modelRecommends only, stages changes for your confirmation, acts within guardrails, or fully autonomous. Quote the vendor's own wording.
UndoSession undo, versioned rollback (theme Older versions), item-level point-in-time restore, or none. "Rollback" as a universal claim is a warning sign.
Platform depthAdmin API scope, theme or storefront code access, staging environments, multi-store.
Price basisFlat, per seat, per ticket or conversation, GMV-scaled, usage credits. And what the entry price buys.
Who operates itMerchant, agency, vendor concierge, or developer.
Data and securityISO 27001 or SOC 2, data residency, and whether store data trains shared models.
The shortlist

The products a BigCommerce merchant would realistically weigh.

BigCommerce native AI (BigAI, Companion, MCP, Feedonomics exports)

What it is
Platform features rather than one product: recommendations and insights, an admin assistant, MCP servers for agents, and catalogue exports into AI shopping surfaces.
Jobs covered
Light store health (Insights), partial SEO and GEO (catalogue enrichment, agentic exports). No ads engine, no journey testing, no native staging, no backup or rollback, migration via Catalyst tooling and partners.
Approval
Companion is described as assisting merchants to complete tasks; exact approval wording not verified on a vendor page. Storefront MCP is shopper-side.
Undo
Not documented.
Price
Included in platform plans (renamed Core, Growth, Scale, Performance on 1 June 2026).
Strongest at
Agentic-commerce distribution of the catalogue and MCP access for developers. Platform-level; no third party can replicate.

Jobs covered
None of the eight store-operations jobs. Marketing campaign creation and customer service.
Approval
Composer: "Nothing goes live without you." Customer Agent acts within guardrails: it "can check loyalty points, process returns, edit orders, apply promotions" without escalating.
Undo
Not documented for agent actions.
Price
Free plan to 250 profiles; paid marketing plans from about $45 a month by active profiles; agents metered separately (Customer Agent shown at $700 for 1,000 conversations with a discount applied).

Triple Whale

What it is

Jobs covered
Ads optimisation and attribution. Actions live in the ad platforms, not the BigCommerce admin.
Approval
Recommend-then-approve by default; guardrailed ad actions.
Undo
Not documented.
Price
Foundation from $219 a month per third-party coverage; confirm on the vendor site.
Strongest at

Zapier or Make

What it is
Horizontal workflow builders (Zaps, scenarios, and each vendor's AI agents) that connect thousands of apps, including the major commerce platforms.
Jobs covered
Whatever you build. Out of the box, none of the eight jobs. Usable for alerts, simple API calls and record syncs.
Approval
Zapier Agents bill per activity and pause at a per-run cap, after which "the agent asks before continuing"; Make AI Agents are in beta on all plans. Neither has store-aware approval; you design it.
Undo
None built in.
Price
Zapier Professional from $19.99 a month billed annually; Make Core from $9 a month. Agent usage billed separately.
Strongest at
Breadth of integrations, low entry price, total flexibility. Glue between systems, not judgement about a store.

Where Vortex IQ fits

Placed on the same criteria.

Six crews, and BigCommerce is where the most is available today. Store Health scans, verifies and writes up findings; Store Development applies API and content changes after approval with a RollbackPro undo point; theme changes arrive as pull requests; SEO and AI Visibility publishes approved content through the same lane; Migration and Recovery runs catalogue migrations into BigCommerce through BC Migration with before-and-after counts, including Shopify to BigCommerce since September 2026; StagingPro provides a production-parity staging copy.

Today on BigCommerce
On BigCommerce today: everything above. Vortex IQ is a BigCommerce Elite partner and the Workbench installs as a BigCommerce app.
On request
Google Ads reads and writes (Meta Ads is live today). Migration destinations other than BigCommerce.
Not a substitute for
Not a substitute for BigCommerce's own agentic-commerce distribution (Feedonomics exports, MCP), Klaviyo's marketing, or a long-retention backup product if you want one independent of any workflow tool.
Approval and undo
Human approval is the default for every write. An undo point is stated per change and exists where the platform and workflow support it. The workflow availability record is the source; where this page and the record disagree, the record governs.
Price
From $399 a month billed annually ($499 month to month) after a 14-day trial. Plans.

Common questions

Choosing AI automation for BigCommerce, answered.

Does BigCommerce have an equivalent of Shopify Sidekick?

BigCommerce Companion, announced at Commerce Live in April 2026, is described as helping merchants analyse data and complete tasks. Whether it writes changes to the store, and under what approval, is not documented on a vendor page we could verify. Treat it as an assistant until BigCommerce says otherwise.

Is there native backup or rollback on BigCommerce?

Not documented. Rewind provides item-level and point-in-time restore from $45 a month. Vortex IQ's RollbackPro keeps restore points for changes made through the workforce, and each change states whether it has one.

Can an AI tool apply fixes to a BigCommerce store safely?

Vortex IQ's Store Development crew applies API and content changes on BigCommerce after a named person approves, with a RollbackPro undo point, and opens pull requests for theme code. That is the platform where this is available today; the workflow availability record lists the current status.

We are moving to BigCommerce. Which tool helps?

BC Migration, run by the Migration and Recovery crew, migrates catalogues into BigCommerce with starting counts, destination counts and exceptions your agency signs off. Shopify to BigCommerce shipped in September 2026. Other destinations are on request.
